Term 2 - Week 6 07 Jun 2018

 NEWSLETTER  NO. 16  -  7/6/18

Reminder that we started our ‘winter shortened lunch break’ this week.  This will mean lunch finishes 10 minutes early and school finishes at 2.40pm.  This gives us more time to complete study centre and sports practices so that students get home well before dark. Study centre will finish at 4:10pm.

School reports will be sent home on Friday 22nd June.  Please ensure you discuss your child’s report so you are well informed prior to parent interviews on the 26th and 28th June.

On Tuesday 26th and Thursday 28th June we will be having parent/caregiver/teacher/students interviews.  The interviews will be 20 minutes long starting from 2.40pm to 8.20pm. At the interview the school reports will be discussed with parents/caregivers. Our aim is that ALL STUDENTS have an interview with teachers. Bookings can be made online and paper forms will also be sent home closer to the date.

There will be a Book Fair for families on these days.  Please have a look when you are here for your interview.

A reminder that on Tuesday 19th June we are holding an Open Night for those families who are interested in enrolling their child for the 2019 year.  It begins in our school hall at 6.30pm with visits to classrooms. If you know of anyone who would be interested please pass on this information or ask them to ring the school at 5677 453.

POLYFEST 2018 WALTER NASH CENTRE (Wednesday 4th July)

This takes place the week of 2nd – 6th July with many performances each night and during the day.  AIS will be performing Wednesday 4th July between 6-00 – 8.00pm.  Doors open at 5.00pm.  We have 40 students involved.  Tickets are now available from our front office and the cost is $5.00 each.  Tickets are limited so please get in quick to purchase – it will be an outstanding week of student performances and well worth seeing.

As from Monday the 18th June there will only be one school bus. The change has been talked about for over a year now by Metlink, and coincides with the change of bus provider around the region. The bus will now do a loop of Stokes Valley, which will mean for some students that they will need to be up earlier in the mornings or may arrive home a bit later in the afternoons.  There is a possibility of some disruptions as the new drivers get used to the routes and timings etc.

A meeting with all bus students will be held next week where they will be given a copy of the timetable. We expect all bus challenges to be sorted by the end of term 2 with all students then familiar with the one new bus route.

On Tuesday 12th June we will be having a school disco from 6:30pm – 8:30pm in the hall. A separate newsletter was sent home yesterday. Please return the permission slip and $4 if your child would like to attend. The theme for the disco is Superstars so students are able to dress up as famous people, movie stars, singers, performers, cartoon characters, super heroes etc if they would like to. There are no door sales, all tickets must be purchased by Tuesday morning at the latest.

On Friday 15th June from 4:30pm – 7:30pm Pomare School are having a night market as part of Matariki celebrations. Get along and support this event at Pomare school!
