2019 ENROLMENTS – TAITA COLLEGE

Taita College are holding interviews with their new students for 2019 at the beginning of Term 4. It is important that all enrolment forms are returned to them so they can get organised. Spare enrolment forms are available from our school office, they can also be returned to us.

2019 ENROLMENTS – AVALON INTERMEDIATE

A reminder that any enrolments for Avalon Intermediate for 2019 should also be returned to us by now as well. We are in the process of organising classes for next year and we are also beginning to gather information from our contributing schools for our new Year 7s as part of transition.

TERM 3 END OF TERM ASSEMBLY

A reminder that our end of term assembly is on Thursday 27th September at 1:10pm in our school hall. Come along to support our students if you are available.

NZ POLICE LASER CHALLENGE

Yesterday we had Tim Yee and his team from Naenae Police come into school to run the Laser Challenge with our students. Tim is our local Youth Aide Officer and our students have enjoyed meeting and getting to know him. Unfortunately we had a large group of students out of school yesterday for sports tournaments and college visits,  so we have organised for Tim and the team to visit again next term so that all of our students can step up to the challenge!

BASKETBALL 2018

The basketball season for 2018 has now finished, our teams performed well across the year and we are proud of their results! We would like to thank our coaches, managers and trainers for all of their support throughout the season; Alicia Wharewera, Noeleen Tuau, Victor Troke, Michelle Moses, Philip Malaelo Simolo, Imogen Crank-Mihaere, Rose Campbell, Julia Poasa, Stuart Crafts and Simon Flockton. SCIENCE ROADSHOW AT AIS

We have hosted the Science Roadshow at our school over the past two days. Two highlights for students were learning about how gravity works and how a 3D printer works. They got see an exciting presentation using liquid nitrogen and were able to look at lots of different exhibits. Thank you to our 12 student helpers who were demonstrators for the two days – they did a fantastic job representing our school and explaining how exhibits worked. It was also great to have parents coming down to attend these sessions and find out a bit more about science at AIS.

HE TOA TAIOHI 2018

This term we have had 20 boys working with Whaitiri Poutawa on Tuesday mornings. They have been learning about manaakitanga, respect and self-discipline. Matua Whaitiri helped the boys to develop their rakau skills. On Tuesday they shared some of their learning with the school – it was wonderful to see what they have achieved over the past 8 weeks. Thank you to Whaitiri Poutawa for his support and to Karen Elliott (Barnardos) for supporting the programme.

MUFTI DAY QUENTIN HOWSAN

Tomorrow (Friday 21st September) we are having a mufti day to fundraise for Quentin Howsan who has made the Inter-Regional Cross Country team! Quentin is the first student we have had at AIS who has made this team and we wish him all the very best next week. We ask that each student bring a gold coin donation tomorrow to support him.

Never Give Up

SCHOOL UNIFORM

Next term our students will need to wear our school hats when they are outside during the day – please check that your child has a school hat and that it is named. If they don’t have one, they will need to purchase one from our office for $15. We expect all students and staff to wear school hats in Term 1 and Term 4.

INTER SCHOOL RUGBY

Yesterday we took our rugby team to Trentham Memorial Park to compete in the Inter School Rugby Tournament. The team played very well as a team but unfortunately we didn’t take away any major placings. We would like to make a special mention to Kingdom Pearce-Pairama and Fletcher Troke, who demonstrated excellent skills and leadership at the event.
