TERM 2 - WEEK 6 19 May 2020

Ratu 12 o Haratua - Tuesday 19th May

Term 2, Week 7

Kia ora koutou,

Our students have made a great start back at school this week. It was lovely seeing their smiles on Monday morning and hearing some of their lockdown stories!

Gardasil Year 8s:

Our health nurses are coming to school on Monday 25th May to administer the Year 8 Gardasil injections. Consent forms for the Gardasil immunisation were sent home earlier in the year, and returned to our school office. We have sent another form home for students that have not returned the consent form. If you do not want your child to receive the immunisation, you still need to complete the form to let the Ministry of Health know.

School Bus:

As you are aware, Metlink is not able to have students standing on school buses at alert level 2. This means that some students will not be able to catch the bus to school because there are not enough seats. I know this is incredibly frustrating, however at this stage there are not enough buses and drivers available. It is really important that you have organised a Plan B with your child, in case they miss the bus.

I have reminded the students who catch the bus in the mornings to fill the bus from the back, so that the driver can see empty seats. A few students have missed the bus each day, because the driver thought the bus was full but there were empty seats. If your child has a cell phone, they can always call our school in the morning if they are stuck and cannot catch a public bus. Our school phone number is 5677453 or they can text our school cell phone 02102715243 and let us know where they are.

The Ministry of Education has provided chromebooks for some of our students and these are being delivered to homes at the moment. Please send this device to school with your child, and once it is set up on our school network, it will be sent to your child’s classroom for them to use at school. We are also trying to sanitise our school-owned chromebooks that we sent to homes during lockdown. These chromebooks should be returned to school now.

Alert Level 2 Reminders:

A reminder that at alert level 2, our focus is to:

  • enable good hygiene practices – regular washing and drying of hands and good cough and sneeze etiquette remain fundamental to preventing spread of illness such as colds, flu and COVID-19

  • ensure people with COVID-19 symptoms stay away from school

  • maintain physical distancing where practicable - students and staff maintaining a physical distance so that they are not breathing on or touching each other

  • keep track of people that enter our school and the spaces they have been in

Nga mihi nui,

Ariana Te Whetu
