TERM 3 - WEEK 3 07 Aug 2020

Rapare 7 o Here-turi-koka - Friday 7th August

Term 3, Week 3

Kia ora koutou,

Thank you to Taita College for welcoming the Year 8 students from Team Kahu and Team Ruru to their marae this week.  Our staff and students really enjoyed the opportunity to learn about their marae and see so many ex-AIS students leading and looking after us on the day.

Over the past three weeks we have held open days on Wednesdays for Year 6 students at our contributing primary schools. Next week is our final open day, and then we have our second open evening at AIS on August 20th from 6pm - 7:30pm. If you have a Year 6 child who will be attending our school next year, please complete the enrolment forms that were handed out to the primary schools and return this as soon as possible. If your child is Year 8, please complete the college enrolment form and return this either directly to the school, or to our office and we can pass this on for you. See the information at the bottom of this newsletter about a small competition that I am running for our Year 8 students!

Congratulations to Inoke in Rm 8 for winning our Gold Card Draw this week. Kaydin in Rm 9 received the Principal’s award this week, for working hard to achieve his goals in school.

These wonderful students in Rm 3 won a class challenge this week - using newspaper, sellotape and balloons to build a car. I was lucky enough to judge the entries and was very impressed with this tank that they built!

Have a lovely weekend,

Ariana Te Whetu

Rail safety week 10-16 August - Cross with Care | Kia tupato te whakawhiti

Rail Safety Week aims to reduce near miss collisions on level crossings. Every near miss is a traumatic event and has a very real impact on the locomotive engineers, the witnesses involved and on those who nearly lost their lives.  Never cross when bells or lights are activated and always look carefully in both directions before crossing.  Be especially careful to look for a second train.  If one train has stopped at a station another one could be coming.  For those families interested, have a look at this Rail Safety Virtual Field trip information that was shared with participating schools in 2019.   Visit the Tracksafe website for more information.

College Enrolments for 2021 - Parents of Year 8 students

A reminder to complete the slip below so we have an indication of where your child will be going next year so we can support these schools with transition. All returned slips will go into a draw and another winner will be drawn at assembly next week. The prize is...lunch from Avalon Espresso with a staff member of your choice! Well done to Zac McElhaney who won the draw this week. Zac decided to take Shelley Howsan, our wonderful teacher aide, to lunch!

Year 8 students only - Please return to the school office (Winner drawn Wed Week 4)
