TERM 4 - WEEK 4 06 Nov 2020

AVALON INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL

Friday 30th November 2020

Term 4, Week 4

NZIS CHRISTMAS MOVIE

On Wednesday 11th November we are having a Christmas themed movie afternoon from 3pm - 6pm here at school. Students from New Zealand Institute of Sport are running this event and they sent a separate newsletter home earlier this week. If your child would like to go, they need to return the permission slip and a gold coin donation to the office before school.

SCHOOL SWIMMING PROGRAMME

Thank you to those families that returned our swimming forms. We have finalised our swimming groups for Weeks 6 and 7 at the Stokes Valley Pools. Students will travel up and back by bus and there is no charge to these lessons. They will need to bring their togs and a towel to school each day on the following dates:

Monday 16th November - Thursday 19th November (Week 6)

Monday 23rd November - Thursday 26th November (Week 7)

DISCO!

A huge thank you to our Rangatira and Alissa Murdoch for organising a disco last night. DJ Schaller and the team organised a wonderful event and our students that came along and had a great night.

VISIT FROM THE MAYOR

On Friday 13th November we are looking forward to welcoming our Lower Hutt Mayor, Campbell Barry to our school. We will welcome him with a mihi whakatau in our school hall, some student performances and then show him around our school.

YEAR 8 STUDENTS ENROLLING AT COLLEGE

We have a small number of students that are still not yet enrolled in a college for next year. We have had transition meetings with staff from Taita College and are meeting with Naenae College in the next few weeks. It’s really important that students are enrolled for 2021 so that we can pass all on all of the information that is needed to support the transition. Some students will be having extra visits to their college over the next few weeks.

TWO STUDENT PRINCIPALS

As part of our writing programme last term, some students wrote speeches about why they should be able to be our principal for the day.  I’ve been listening to the finalists this week and have been very impressed with the great ideas that our students have shared! Congratulations to Melody Andreson-Pearce and James Szadkowski for winning this speech competition. They will be principals on Monday 16th November and supported by Alissa Murdoch. I will be in Rm 1 and then Rm 9 that day...as a student!
