TERM 4 - WEEK 6 20 Nov 2020

Rapare 20 o Whiringa-a-Rangi/Friday 20th November

Term 4, Week 6

Kia ora koutou,

We’ve had a great week here and I want to acknowledge our staff and students for how well they are looking after each other at this busy time of the year. Today we had Year 9 students from Taita College come to visit and run ‘College Workshops’ with our Year 8 students so that they know a bit more about what it will be like next year. We’ve also had a few Year 6 students from contributing schools come through for extra visits and there are lots of Kapa Haka, Poly Club and sports training on. It is awesome to see so many great things going on at the moment.

A reminder that our school swimming programme has started, and continues next week for those students who will be having free lessons. They need to bring their togs and a towel to school from Monday - Thursday.

A separate letter for the Year 8 dinner went home last week. It will be held at the Cossie Club in Upper Hutt on Thursday 3rd December. The cost for the event is $30 and this needs to be paid at the school office by Wednesday 25th November so we can confirm final numbers for catering. This is always a special evening with dancing, celebrations and beautiful kai!

A reminder that the last day to order and pay for a school sports hoody is on Wednesday 25th November. The order form and payment is made through our school office and students try them on at the office to find the right size. There will be two opportunities to purchase these next year.

Children’s sizes available: 10, 12 and 14 and these are $45 each (including the printing of the name)

Adult sizes available:  S, M, L, XL, 2XL and these are $50 each (including the printing of the name)

We are really pleased to invite our students and whanau to our Fiafia evening in Week 9 to celebrate the end of our school year. It has been an incredibly challenging year because of COVID-19 and so many events have been cancelled so we thought that this would be a lovely way to bring everyone together and see our students perform. We’ll have some christmas carols, our Kapa Haka and Poly Club will perform as well as acts from different students who have chosen to perform. More information for this will come home to those students next week.

The plan for the evening is:

6.00pm - 6:45pm  Sausage sizzle for family and whanau, no charge.

7.00pm - 8:20pm  Performances

Our school has accepted the invitation to join the Healthy School Lunches Programme for 2021. This will be available for all of the students at our school and it is free. The Ministry of Education is working with a catering company who will be delivering this next year. If your child is Year 7 this year and has any dietary requirements (e.g. if they need a vegetarian, vegan or gluten free lunch) can you please contact Leanne in the office so we can arrange this. The lunches will begin from Term 1, Week 1 so we are organising this information over the next two weeks. This is awesome for our students and we are very appreciative of this opportunity.

To celebrate our inquiry this term, 2021 and Beyond, we will be having our first Careers Expo at school! We have invited different community members into school to talk with students about their area of work, how they got into that job, what skills are important for their job and what subjects at school were important for them. We will be welcoming them with a Mihi Whakatau that starts at 10am and then students will be able to meet and talk with our guests. We are still looking for people that work in the following areas; Barber, Electrician, Builder, Paramedic, Police, Army, Interior Designer, Sports Person and/or any other occupations that our students might be interested in learning about! Please contact me at school if you are able to help.  (Ariana)
