HOT TIPS

Take the ‘fight’ out of your voice:

It’s easy to get into conflict with our kids.  They ignore us, we raise our voices, they fight back etc.

We, the big people, need to be strong, loving, flexible and available.  It’s important to back our words up with actions and consequences.  Clear confident communication with simple instructions, no pleading, fussing or nagging is a more friendly approach.  Basically take the ‘fight’ out of your voice!

Try to look for ways to celebrate your kids, especially using referential praise – raving about them to others.

BOT MEETING

The last meeting of the current BOT will be held on Tuesday 17th May in our Board room.

AVALON INTERMEDIATE BOARD ELECTIONS

Parent representative nomination forms were posted out last week.  If you did not receive one please advise Leanne Thompson our returning officer on 5677 453.

Nominations must reach our school office by noon on Friday 20th May.

We are looking for 5 parent representatives but would welcome more nominations so you as the voting parents/guardians have more choice in who you would like to elect to our Board.  It would be of great benefit to our school community to have Board members who represent the diversity of our varied cultures.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE to the running of the school, our students and our community. Please give serious thought to standing for the BOT.

“The Board is accountable for student progress and achievement to its parents, community and the Crown.  The board has the overall responsibility and accountability for the school or Kura.”

BEING LATE TO SCHOOL/ABSENCES

We are noticing an increased number of students arriving late to school.   Please ensure your child arrives at 8.45am for the first bell.  We understand problems do arise at home from time to time but often it is the same students being a bit lax about organizing themselves to be on time!  If your child will be arriving late please ring the school on 5677 453 or text to 021 027 15243.

Also this applies to any absences.  The class roll is called at 8.50am and students who are not there are marked as absent. This information is sent to the office and absences are rung. It is a safety requirement for the protection of our students.  It is most important late students sign in at the office to avoid confusion.  If your child is absent please ring the school absence line on 5677 453 or text to 021 027 15243.
