 MAORI LANGUAGE WEEK – TE REO MAORI 4TH JULY – 10th JULY

Every year since 1975 New Zealand has marked Maori Language Week.  This is a time for all New Zealanders to celebrate te reo Maori (The Maori language) and to use more Maori phrases in everyday life.  The theme is akina to reobehind you all the way, which is about using te reo Maori to support people, to inspire and cheer on.

Here are some ‘concept’ Maori words for you:

Aroha – compassion,      Ihi – power, authority,      Mana – authority, power, secondary meaning: reputation, influence,   Manaakitanga – respect for hosts or kindness to guests,     Mauri – hidden essential life force,      Tapu – sacred, not to the touched (taboo).     Tiaki – to care for,   Wehi – to be held in awe,     Whenua – land, homeland country.

 

SCHOOL DATES

The end of term 2 is TOMORROW Friday 8th July finishing at 2.40pm.

Term 3 begins on Monday 25th July at 8.45am.  Please note the earlier closing time of 2.40pm will continue for at least the first 3 weeks of term 3.

 

END OF TERM

Thank you all parents/caregivers for all the support you have given us throughout term 2, our continued roll growth clearly indicates that we are doing good things alongside your children.  It has been very busy with many extra activities to cater for students learning;  to all those parents/caregivers who have supported us at sports and other activities, again thank you.

WHANAU PARENTS MEETING

On Monday 4th July @ 6-7.30pm all Maori parents were invited to this meeting at the Walter Nash Centre.  Thank  you all whanau who made the session

worthwhile and I appreciate your sharing ;  it was a very helpful meeting.

SPORT

North East Pathways: this programme will see our students engaged in badminton and squash in term 3.

Waterpolo Results :our understrength team fought valiantly last night against a strong HIBS team - unfortunately they lost .

Rugby League: On Wednesday 6th July – well done both teams a very good skill level shown by both teams.

Netball Draw: Ferns 1pm , Magics 4pm, Pulse 12 noon,  Diamonds 12noon, All Stars 9am & 10am. All girls need to be in attendance for games.

Note: Next game 23rd July – last Saturday of the holidays.

 

SWIMMING PROGRAMME – BEGINNING 22ND AUGUST

You would have had a letter home outlining out swimming programme. The cost is $20 per student and this amount has been subsidized by our BOT.  It is important that ALL students participate in the swimming lessons.

 

ARTS BLOCK REFURBISHMENT

The Arts Block should be completed over the holiday break.  This will see RTLB housed in one end and another good room for AIS to use for teaching, parent or teacher meetings and also for staff meetings.  It will be a very good space for the school to use alongside our community as well as a good teaching space.

 

BOT MEETING

Our Board meets on Tuesday 26th July at 6.30pm, week 1 term 3.

 

LUCKY GOLD CARD DRAW

Congratulations toRachel Fairbairn R2 for being L – A LEARNER/LEADER. Junior Neighborhood Support was awarded to Zak Hooper- Wills  R4 & Damian Scarhill R7 for  A - ASPIRE – be the best you can.  Well done both of you.

 

COMMUNITY NOTICES

Serendipity Year 2 Art Exhibition at Oldlin Gallery in Lower Hutt. Local, past and present students from The Learning Connextion which is in the local community.  Wednesday 6th July to Sunday 10th July 9 – 11 Myrtle St, Lower Hutt.
