It is important that we get a high turnout of parents/caregivers to these meetings.  They are valuable and helpful to your child’s learning.  We still have some parents/caregivers who have not attended one meeting.  Please come along for an hour and get a good understanding of what your child is doing around his/her learning. Please fill in the letter accompanying this newsletter and return it tomorrow.  Thankyou.

COMBINED STAFF NZEI AND PPTA MEETING

You may have seen in the news the NZEI teachers and support staff  and PPTA (technology staff) have called for combined Union meetings to inform education workers of their stance on recently announced government initiatives. The meeting for our area is THURSDAY 8TH SEPTEMBER AT 1.30PM. We are still working through the details re what time the school will be closed;  we will have this sorted by the next newsletter.

SWIMMING PROGRAMME

This has begun at Stokes Valley Pool.  Please send your child with their togs and towels on every day except Thursday.  It was a bit of a scramble the first day with urgent phone calls home to get forgotten togs!!!  We need more students swimming;  too many are making excuses to not participate in a programme that will significantly improve their swimming.  For students who have not participated this week , week 2 costs $10.00 per student.

SPORT

Netball: Inter-school Netball Tournament was held at the Waitangirua Netball Courts in Porirua yesterday.  Joan Makisi took one team and the girls played very well to come  9th overall out of 16 teams.

Water Polo results:the final game of the season was on Wednesday evening.  It was a classic game of two halves with the team down by 6 at the interval.  A strong fight back brought us  to within 1 goal but we could not quite get the scores equal to force a golden goal extra period.  The team finished 4th in the A grade of the competition with a great effort being put in by all players over the season.  Thank you to the parents/caregivers for helping out with the scoring and support from the sideline.

Basketball results:  24/8/16  - Yr 8 girls v Wainui  - win,   Yr 8 boys vs Wellesley – loss, Yr 7 boys vs Hutt Intermediate – loss

Netball: Saturday netball season is over – thank you to Ti Watson, Licia Wharewera, Joan Makisi, Steph Lamborn  and Julia Poasa for coaching.  Thank you also to the parents/caregivers and whanau for your support

and well done to all the girls for their commitment and participation.
