NEWSLETTER NO. 27 : 7/9/16 07 Sep 2016

    NEWSLETTER NO. 27 :    7/9/16

Reminder the meeting for our area is TOMORROW THURSDAY 8TH SEPTEMBER AT 1.30PM at Walter Nash Stadium. This meeting which is a legitimate paid union meeting has been called because of the changes being proposed by the Government around funding of schools.

For AIS students this will mean that they LEAVE AT 12.30PM WITH BUSES LEAVING AT 12.35pm. It is important with the meeting being held at Walter Nash Centre that all students go straight home at 12:35. For those families who are really stuck we will have 3 staff who are not union members at school till 2:50pm. Please return the signed slips so we know if they are staying.

Reminder Dion performs this Friday 9th September. We have also included another notice to be completed and returned tomorrow for those students who have not done so. It is an opportunity to see an excellent show and we want students attending.  The cost is $5.00.

We have 2 more weeks after this week until the end of term. We are now going into a very busy period where we start to test and gather data on how well students are performing. Teachers are having ongoing discussions with students around where they were at with half year reports data eg on track, working towards or not expected to make the standard. Students need to be aware of where they were in June and what they need to do to reach standard by November. Hard work will get some “not expected” students to standard however it requires positive learning interactions and hard work. In this run into the end of term our expectations are that all students will be very focused around their learning so that they are getting the very best from the classroom learning.

Taita College enrolment forms can be picked up from the school office and returned. They are doing more interviews at the beginning of next term, so please get your forms in if you haven’t already.

The XV a side tournament takes place next Wednesday at Trentham Memorial Park in Upper Hutt. We want our very best team representing the school. The expectation is that boys chosen will be making sure they are also focussed on classroom learning and making positive choices to ensure that they make it to playing day. Poor choices could exclude boys from the team. A separate letter has gone home with the boys who are playing.

This is an INVITE ONLY Function and is usually a good night. Our Rangatira have organised the disco for our Avalon Intermediate students.  A separate letter with a permission form will be sent home friday.  The cost will be $3. Poor choices and behaviour will exclude students from being invited.

                                                      GOLD CARD LUCKY DRAW

Congratulations to Tamara Tokona-Tapara  who was the lucky winner of the gold draw this week being rewarded for our ACROSTIC being a leader/ learner and taking responsibility.

Congratulations to Rima Tahouf for working hard on all her learning and getting an A for aspire, “pushing to do her best everyday”

The numbers have increased for Study Centre which is great. The learning taking place is also very helpful to all students attending. The expectation is that all students attending will be going regularly and will be very focussed on their learning so that they improve.

The end of Term 3 assembly will be held on 21 September at 11.10 am parents are more than welcome to come along and be part of this. A number of students will be acknowledged for good work in Term 3.

The Board of Trustees have been very helpful and supportive with fees in 2016, however technology fees and swimming fees need to be paid.  We will be following these up so we are not chasing them in Term 4. Can you please check with the front office to ensure they are up to date. Thank you to all those that pay by AP. There will be some costs in Term 4 to meet EOTC trip details will follow later.
