NEWSLETTER NO. 11 13/04/17

SCHOOL BEGINS FOR TERM 2 MONDAY 1ST MAY AT 8.45AM

 

Thank you all for a very busy, successful and productive start to 2017. It is pleasing to see students following our school ACROSTIC guidelines both in the learning and behaviour.  We aim to provide for the rapid changes in the physical, social, intellectual and emotional needs of emerging adolescent students.

 

STAFF FAREWELLS

This term we farewell:  Matt Jackett who began AIS as a PRT in 2012.  Matt has strived for excellence in his teaching profession and has risen to a leadership role.  He has brought many skills to his teaching including Maths, Literacy and Sport (including being selected for the HCC position of the North East Pathways Initiative).  We wish him well in his new job of Principal of Pirinoa School situated in Wairarapa.

Sam McGavin began last year and now moving to a leadership role at Waterloo School.  We would like to thank Sam for all the work he has done with his students and for the support he has given to our staff.

 

MAGIC CARD – CERTIFICATES OF ACHIEVEMENT

The Walter Nash Centre together with Hutt City Council award magic points for cardholders.  These points can be earned by:

reading to a librarian, write a movie or book review, take a book title selfie, complete a project at Club house, participate in library events, write a magic testimonial, make a themed poster using a computer, complete the ‘craft of the month’. Complete the weekly library quiz, accepted content for Magic homepage ie artwork, attend a regular library sessions, return your books on time, present magic card, keeping the same Magic card for the whole term. Bring back photo permission slip, visit the pools, and visit a museum.

Prizes have point values added to them so you can choose your reward. 

Georgina Te Kira, Tanisha Hohepa and Hakeema Aminudeen have won the ‘big’ prizes and

Certificates for Achievement were awarded to Xodus Purewa,Tamara Tokona-Tapara, Tahsin Labiba. Nikita McCall, JJ Malama, Jacqui Wesson, Jacksyn Wiremu-Pomare, Gabriel Ritchie,  Emily Schuster,  Bonnie O’Meara,  Arikinui Waihaki, Skakia Boyer-Marwood, Jeirosla Lakopo and Lakopa Lakopo have earned points and they can accumulate these points to choose their prize.

 

ELGREGO THE MAGICIAN

On Tuesday 2nd May (Week 1) we have Elgrego the Magician coming in to perform for our students in the afternoon. Elgrego entertains the students with tricks, puppets and music, and he also shares powerful anti-bullying messages about positive attitudes, respect and acceptance.

 

COMPUTERS IN HOMES PROGRAMMES

Combined with Te Awa Kairangi Trust, Spark Jump, Hutt City Council and 2020 Trust to provide a blogging programme called “Summer Learning Journey” over the Christmas/New Year break.

13 students were engaged in their literacy through researching about their selected country and answering daily questions.

2 prizes were donated by TAKA TRUST + 2020 TRUST.  Tapaki Togiatau gained 360 points through blogging everyday about Japan, Cambodia & Germany.  Ka rawe Tapaki!!  As overall winner he has won an Air Mac Laptop.

 

TEAMS APIRANA AND HILLARY AT CAMP

A big thank you to all our wonderful parent/caregiver camp helpers and to all staff who were involved in preparing for, and running these camps.  Apart from a blip with the weather on Wednesday night it was an AWESOME experience for our students and we have many ‘happy campers’ albeit very tired. It was wonderful to see the students participating in activities they have never tried before.

WARNING TO OUR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES - Please be aware!!

A 17 year old girl was grabbed in Macky Street at 2.20pm but managed to get away. Please look out for a white 4 door rusty car possibly a Toyota .
