PAID UNION MEETING REMINDER – EARLY FINISH

A reminder that on Wednesday 21st March there is a paid union meeting being held at AIS for teachers. It is important that our teachers attend this meeting; therefore students will have an early finish that day at 1:45pm. The school buses to Taita and Stokes Valley will leave AIS at 1:45pm. We apologise for this inconvenience that this will cause, if you are unable to organise alternative care for your child, please contact the school office and speak with Leanne or Michele.

SUMMER READING CHALLENGE

Each year the Hutt City libraries run a summer reading programme encouraging children to have fun while maintaining their reading over the summer holidays. More than 680 children in the Hutt Valley completed this challenge and we were pleased to be able to acknowledge the students at our school that did this. Well done to Daemon Iti-Adam, Ezra Semu, Petonio Foaese, Quentin Howsan, Denika Harper, Briar Austin, Zayda-Jade Simpson-Tiaki, Tufaina Tagataese, Natahle Te Kira, Georgina Te Kira, Bizhahn Lyttle, Riana Shaw and Niamh Sugre. Fantastic work!

LITERACY AND NUMERACY STUDY CENTRES

These sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons are underway and student turnout is impressive! There were 40 students at Maths study centre this week! Well done to all of those students who are putting in extra effort at school.

GIRLS FUTSAL TOURNAMENT

Mr Crafts took two teams to Walter Nash on Tuesday for the Girls Futsal Tournament at Walter Nash Stadium. He said it was a fantastic day and one of the best tournaments he had attended! Thank you to Capital Football for organising the event and well done to the teams who were organised at trainings and on the day.

MUFTI DAY FOR FLOYD

We are pleased to see Avalon Intermediate students on the front page of The Hutt News this week with Floyd , the Hutt City Council’s golden retriever. Floyd has developed a rare form of cancer and they are trying to fundraise $6,000 for his treatment. Floyd is a special dog because he goes into schools with his owner, to teach children how to be safe around dogs. He has a 70% chance of survival if he receives the treatment that he needs. We would like to support him and the Rangatira are organising a mufti day on Friday at school. Students are asked to bring a gold coin donation on Friday 9th March. Thank you for your support.
