AVALON INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL

NEWSLETTER TERM 3 – WEEK 9   19/09/19

GIRLS SPORTS TOURNAMENTS

Congratulations to our girls rugby team who came 2nd in the Wellington Intermediate Schools tournament yesterday! We are very proud of the effort the team put in leading up to the tournament with after school trainings with Rob Ngan-Woo. A big thank you to Joe Hirini, who helped to coach and train and to Julia Poasa for organising the team.

Our girls Futsal teams also performed well at their tournament on Monday with Kimberley Sinclair and Georgina Dewsnap. Thank you for representing our school at this event and for encouraging each other and the other teams.

GOODTIME MUSIC FOUNDATION

Goodtime Music Foundation programme will resume as normal tomorrow afternoon. Application forms to join (no costs involved) can be picked up from our school office.

ARTSPLASH

On Tuesday evening Kirsten Herd, Rosemary Wards and Joan Makisi took two groups to Artsplash in Wellington. Joan Makisi has worked alongside our choir and Rosemary and Kirsten have been working with the Wearable Arts group throughout the term to design and then create some incredible costumes! We had a smaller group than other schools but they stepped up and were acknowledged at the rehearsal for their skills and performance!  A special thank you to the Hutt City Council for providing free buses for these groups to both the rehearsal and the evening event, this made the travel organisation logistics a lot easier!

MEASLES INFORMATION

As you will be aware there is a large and increasing measles outbreak in Auckland with over 900 confirmed cases and 21 cases in Wellington to date. I have attached a letter from the Regional Public Health about measles and the need to raise awareness of this outbreak, especially if your family are travelling to Auckland in the school holidays. Please read this information carefully.

We are in the process of updating our immunisation records at school so please read the attached information carefully and provide an updated copy of your child’s immunisation record to our office if you have not already done so.  If you are not sure if you have, please call our office. We will be making contact with those families who we do not have immunisation records over the next week but would appreciate your support in this by checking this first.
