NEWSLETTER TERM 4 – WEEK 5

CAMP

Our school camp at Brookfield Camp in Wainuiomata was a great success. The students had a great time learning new skills outside the classroom and worked really well together to build relationships with each other, staff and parents. A very special thank you to all of our parents and whanau, who gave up their time to come along and help us out. The students are in the process of writing letters to acknowledge you all but on behalf of the staff and the BOT, thank you for your wonderful support of our students and school.

BADMINTON LESSONS

Simone Naylor (Hutt Valley Badminton) is delivering badminton lessons to all of our classes this week. These lessons have kindly been paid for by the Hutt City Council. Simone has made the comment (again!) that she is so impressed with the natural ability of so many of our students when they are playing badminton - check out their website if your child is interested in taking up this sport.   www.bhv.org.nz

MIHI WHAKATAU

Thank you to the staff and students who organised the mihi whakatau for me on Tuesday. It was a very special morning and well represented with all staff, RTLB, Ian Hastie, previous staff members and lots of my own whanau. I am extremely proud of our students and staff, and my whanau are equally impressed. Nga mihi nui ki a koutou.

BLACK AND WHITE MUFTI DAY - FRIDAY 15TH NOVEMBER (TOMORROW!)

Tomorrow we are having a free mufti day for students. We have asked students to come dressed in black and white (if they have these colours at home) to support our teacher aides in the current Pay Equity Campaign, led by NZEI. The campaign for pay equity for teacher aides has been going on since 2017, and is now at the negotiation stage with the Ministry of Education. Our teacher aides are incredibly important in our school, and we fully support them in this journey. Thank you Shelley, Jackie, Michele, Sue, Georgina, and Ra for all of the work that you do, including the unnoticed, each and every day.
