AVALON INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL

NEWSLETTER TERM 1 - Week 7

 Tuesday 10th March 2020

THANK YOU - TEACHER ONLY DAY

Thank you for your support last week when we closed the school for our Taita/Stokes Valley/Naenae Staff Only day. 35 staff members from Avalon Intermediate spent the day at Naenae College, in total there were over 500 staff members from the schools in our area . The two keynote speakers were Ann Milne and Henare O’Keefe who shared powerful messages around engaging and supporting our tamariki. It was also an important opportunity for all staff members to continue to build relationships and networks across our community.

ATHLETICS DAY - WEDNESDAY 11TH MARCH

Tomorrow is our school athletics day and we are hoping that the weather is on our side! Classes have been practising each event as part of PE lessons and we look forward to see healthy competition and support. If students are choosing to bring coloured clothing to support their team, that they can compete in the athletics events e.g. no jeans.

Team Colours          Team Tui - Purple                 Team Ruru - Yellow Team Kahu - Orange

  • They can come to school in their PE gear, other clothing to support their team can be brought in their school bag.

  • They are also allowed to bring a cap or hat of their choice to wear on the day (or wear their school that if they would prefer).

CELEBRATIONS

Congratulations Kaedyn Borell for winning the gold card draw last week in our school assembly. Kaedyn won a voucher to use at our school tuck shop. The Deputy Principal’s awards were given to Manaia Moreli and Viena Masoe for showing great leadership across the school.

TECHNOLOGY/ART/SCIENCE PROGRAMME

Students started a new programme today as part of the Technology/Art/Science rotation. They will be working with a new teacher for these lessons for the remainder of the term. Our students at A.I.S. go to Technology on Mondays and Tuesdays and this is often always a highlight of the week.

WELCOME TO NEW STAFF MEMBERS

Welcome to Tracey Pickering, Peteli Poasa and Lee Martin who have joined our team as teacher aides. They have quickly established positive relationships with our students and the teachers that they are supporting.

Ngå mihi,

Ariana Te Whetu, Principal
