NEWSLETTER NO. 13 -  14/04/2015

REMINDER - TERM 2 CLASSROOM MEETINGS HAVE STARTED

All the classes have had their individual date reminder notice sent home.  This is once again an opportunity for all parents/caregivers to meet informally in classrooms with classroom teachers and students. All meetings begin at 6.00pm :

              Rooms 1 & 2       Monday 18th May

              Room 4             Tuesday 19th May

              Room 3 -           Wednesday 20th May

              Room 7 -           Thursday 21st May

These meetings are very important with both the classroom teacher and students talking about their learning.  We are making these meetings informal so that parents/caregivers are able to see what their child is actually doing in his/her classroom.  We are very hopeful that we will get a 100% parent/student turn out.

We are also discussing swimming and camp at these meetings.

AIR NEW ZEALAND SAFETY VIDEO

As you are aware we have won the Air New Zealand Safety Video competition, our fifth film award in the last three years.  We have received a great deal of positive publicity for winning with many people very impressed with what we are doing and how we are working with young adults. Parents/caregivers please take this opportunity to spread the word especially to any year 6 parents/caregivers about how good the learning opportunities are at AIS.  I hope you have read the Dom Post article by Dave Armstrong that gives the school a well deserved ‘pat on the back’.

CHOCOLATE FUNDRAISING

We will once again be looking at doing chocolate fundraising to support fees, swimming subs and camp.  We estimate students will need about $250 to cover all of the above.

PRINCIPAL’S AWARD/LUCKY DRAW

Congratulations to Kararaina Waipouri R2 who won the Principal’s Award and Mika Ulberg R2 who was the gold card winner for this school week.  Well done Room 2.

SPORT

Cross Country: the school team has been picked with the first 10 place getters in each category going forward to interschool.  All these students need to be running regularly most days for 15 minutes to keep improving their fitness.

Basketball Results:

Y8 Girl’s vs St Peter & Paul – win,          Yr 7 boy’s vs HIBS - loss

Yr8 boy’s bye.                Great skill development – so well done all players.

7s Rugby Tournament: Well done the three teams who represented the school yesterday.  Year 7s  were unlucky after losing in the semifinal.  Year 8 played well to finish 2nd in the pool.  The girl’s team showed great skill especially with many of them not actually rugby players.  Thank you to the parents/caregivers who attended and supported and co-coach Ti Watson who assisted Mrs Raumoa.

Waterpolo:  Congratulations to our waterpolo team (The Aquabots) for winning their first game last night at Naenae Pools.  They played HIBS and won 10-2 working very well together as a team.  Player of the day was Charlotte More R6.

REVOLUTION TOUR

Yesterday students were invited to participate with the members of Revolution.  It was great entertainment with plenty of dancing and clapping.

BOT MEETING

Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday 19th at 6.30pm in the Board Room.
