NEWSLETTER NO. 17 - 11/6/2015

 

MID YEAR REPORTS

These will be sent home with your child on Friday 19th June.  The interviews held the following week will be based around the school report.  Please take the time to go over the report with your child so you are both informed and ready for the interview discussion. 

 

PARENT/CAREGIVER/TEACHER/STUDENT INTERVIEWS –

WEDNESDAY 24TH & THURSDAY 25TH JUNE

You have been sent home interview preference time forms.  Please fill this in and return it to school early so you have more chance to get your preferred time slot.  School interviews are a very important part of the link between home and school. 

 

MAGIC CARD

Has your child got their magic card giving free access to swimming pools and free library usage?  With the holidays coming up this is a great FREE way to spend part of the two week break.  We encourage all students to take the great opportunity of free entertainment. If your child hasn’t got their magic card please ask them to come to the office to fill in a form as soon as possible because the school holidays aren’t very far away now!

 

LOCKDOWN AND EARTHQUAKE DRILL

These have both been practiced this term and we were very pleased with the way students reacted to both practice and scenarios.

 

SCHOOL VISITORS

On Wednesday we welcomed Qi Xaiojina and Zhao Jinxia from Bejing,

China for 3 days.  They are part of a sister city arrangement with Rotary.  They will be visiting all the classrooms including the technology blocks and looking at how NZ schools operate.

 

VISITING 2016 YEAR 7 STUDENTS

Today current year 6 students from Taita Central and Koraunui Schools had an orientation day participating in teaching sessions in technology and classrooms as well joining in with our assembly. 

Next week on the 18th we have Pomare and Tawhai, plus interested students from other schools who have shown an interest in Avalon Intermediate for their intermediate years. We are encouraging many families to look at AIS as an intermediate option for them.

 

NEW PARENT INFORMATION EVENING

This will take place next THURSDAY 18TH JUNE AT 7.00PM IN OUR HALL.  We would appreciate it if you could inform any potential parents/caregivers of this meeting and encourage them to attend.

 

BOT MEETING

This will be held on Tuesday 16th June at 6.30pm in our Board room.

 

SPORT

Cross Country: This was postponed from Wednesday because of bad weather.  It will now take place tomorrow at Trentham Memorial Park. We will leave school at 9.20am and be back early afternoon.

Water Polo: another great win against Wilford.

Basketball: Yr 7 boys lost to Hutt Inter 28-14, Year 8 boys won against Hutt Inter 16-5 and Year 8 girls have a bye this week.  Next week is the final game for this round of basketball.

 

POLYFEST TICKETS $5 PER PERSON

The AIS office is selling tickets to the Polyfest to be held on 23rd June at the Walter Nash Stadium.  We have a Polyfest group of 31  students representing the school working diligently with Mrs Makisi and Miss Toi Auta.  We ask you to purchase these tickets now to support AIS.

 

PRINCIPAL’S AWARD/LUCKY GOLD CARD DRAW

Jeremiah Thickett R1 won the principal’s award and Jessikah Smith R4 won the gold card  draw.  Well done, you two are making good choices!!!!

 

COMMUNITY NOTICES

WhanauFIT: On Fridays at 6pm (indoors) and Sundays at 4pm at Avalon Intermediate School these FREE family fitness sessions are run for our community and anyone else keen to attend. This programme is part of the Northwest Pathways project run by the Hutt City Council.  Come along and join in for some fun and fitness.

St Bernard’s College orientation visit: We have information letters at the office for any Year 8 Catholic boys to may be interested. Please ask your son to come and collect one.
