LABOUR DAY HOLIDAY

This is a long weekend with Monday 26th October being Labour Day.

School will begin again on Tuesday 8.45am.

EXPECTATIONS FROM AVALON INTERMEDIATE STUDENTS!!

The last part of the term will pass very quickly and there is a lot happening at school. We still of course have high expectations from our students especially around learning and behaviour.  We do not want our standards slipping as we get to the end of 2015. It would be great if home and school could work together on this please?

WE BREAK UP FOR THE YEAR ON WEDNESDAY 16TH DECEMBER

WALTER NASH STADIUM

Did you go and enjoy the free events last weekend at the Walter Nash Stadium?  The whole school celebrated the opening of the Walter Nash Centre on Friday 16th October and were proud of our student Stean Wilson R7 who was selected by the staff of Taita Library, along with the Mayor, to cut the ribbon. Students from Avalon Intermediate, Taita College, Taita Central, St Michaels & Pomare School sang ‘He Honore ‘ as a massed choir.

The Walter Nash Centre is an excellent asset for our students and the area.

They can also use their MAGIC CARDS in the new library.

SCHOOL CAMPS

The first camps for Rooms 5, 6 & 7 take place between the 3rd and 6th November less than two weeks away.

This is followed by Rooms 1 & 2 between 10th and 13th November and finally Rooms 3 & 4 between 17th and 20th November.

A list of gear needed if not already sent home will be shortly.

A reminder that all fees need to be paid prior to camp being paid.

CLASSROOM CAMP MEETINGS

These will take place for rooms 5, 6 & 7 on Wednesday 28th October – next Wednesday.  It would be good if we could have all students attending camp represented at these important meetings please.

This is an entertaining, funny show celebrating ‘kiwiana’ and team building at Avalon Intermediate.  Our BOT are going to pay for all our students to attend so no cost to families!!!

TRIP TO CITIZENS ADVICE BUREAU IN WELLINGTON

Paasca Schaller and Henry Skipper took a musical performance group to Pipitea Marae yesterday for their AGM/ convention hui and we were there to support them.  Our students gave of their best and were amazing.  Citizens Advice asked us to perform after seeing our winning films so the word is getting around about the outstanding talent Avalon Intermediate has!

NORTH EAST PATHWAYS SPORTS PROJECT

Thank you to families who filled in and returned their survey.  The students and staff will be filling in their part at school.  It is a great initiative for our school to be involved; it gives our students immense opportunities and we do want to support the Hutt City Council.
