AVALON INTERMEDIATE NEWSLETTER  NO. 22 – 4/8/16

EDUCATION REVIEW OFFICE

A team has visited Avalon Intermediate for the past four days and we are very pleased with the feedback they have given us about our school and student learning. We will get the written report in 5-6 weeks.

SWIMMING PROGRAMME

We have given out more bright orange swimming permission forms for those of you who have not replied .  Please check your child’s school bag!!  It is important we have everyone swimming and we have the permission form and money returned back to school.   We remind you the swimming programmes begin on 22nd August and the subsidized cost is $20.

CHANGE OF SHORTENED DAY

This is still continuing until Monday 29th August but we will remind you nearer the time.   We have been lucky with some lovely weather which means the students can be outside for morning tea and lunchtimes.  It is great to see so many involved in physical exercise and ball games alongside staff members.

DENTAL VAN

A reminder that the van is visiting and catching up those  students who have missed visits previously.

STUDY CENTRE

The expectation is that all students who go need to attend our study centre.  This is an opportunity for extra learning and it does make a difference to students. Please note Numeracy Study Centre is Monday next week, literacy/environmental normal Thursday

RIO OLYMPICS

This unit of work will see all students getting homework that will support the classroom learning.  The Olympics are an exciting time for students and the expectation is that all students will be fully involved.

TOUGH GUY AND GAL CHALLENGE

PRINCIPAL’S AWARD AND GOLDCARD DRAW

Congratulations to Parys Boyd for winning the gold card draw, with a great display of Aspiring to do her best.  Thanks to "Dialled Indoor Tramp Park", hope you have a bouncing good time Parys. Congratulations to Ethan Sowry for winning the Principal's Award, for making excellent choices with his learning.

ORIENTATION VISIT FOR YEAR 6 STUDENTS

                 FROM OUR CONTRIBUTING SCHOOLS
We are expecting about 80 students from our contributing schools on Tuesday 9th August.  They will spend the day taking part in technology programmes, visiting classrooms and attending the assembly.  We expect AIS students to ‘mix and mingle’ and make our visitors welcome. Think back to how you felt as a year 6 visiting AIS for your orientation day last year.  Follow our ACROSTIC ‘O’ – OUR PLACE – respect myself, my class, my school and MY COMMUNITY.

Te Awa Kairangi Kohanga Reo

A group of 8 boys are spending 30 minutes in the Kohanga 4 days a week. This experience is helping them with their Te Reo as well as giving them the opportunity to lead in their classrooms.  We are very pleased with how responsible these boys are being on this programme and we are hopeful that others can also take part later in the term.

Lateness to school

This is becoming an issue for some of our students who are continually late. The school bell rings at 8.45am and all students should be at school by this time. Please ensure your child leaves home with enough time to allow them to walk,  or catch a ride to ensure they arrive on time. If your child is going to be late please call the office on 5677453 or text 02102715243 with your child's name and the reason they will be late.
