He aha te kai o te rangatira? He korero, he korero, he korero.

Our Rangatira, Young Leaders, are selected by their peers and teachers and are a link between the students and staff at Avalon Intermediate. Our role as Rangatira is to collect student voice and ideas from the classroom and plan ways to make improvements around our school. Rangatira are positve role models in our school and community.

Term 1 2017 Update

The Rangatira group for 2017 worked very hard in Term 1 and we are pleased with the way we have started the year. We organised a mufti day at the end of the term as so many students requested it; fundraising for boardgames to put in classes because it is nearly winter so we will be spending some more time inside. The Young Leaders also held a bully survey earlier in the term. This helped us notice the students who were making other members of AIS feel uncomfortable or unsafe and helped this to stop. We were also fortunate enough to have Bernadette, an electrical engineer with a Samoan background, come and talk to us about her life and her journey through to becoming an engineer. We chose other students from our classes to come along and listen to Bernadette talk. It was an inspiring session and we all took something away from the experience. This term has been filled with amazing leadership opportunities for us. Hopefully next term there will be even more!
